Pain is the body speaking plainly that something is wrong. It is often an essential part of the healing process. It is one of the indications to us that there’s some damage in that area. Never try to suppress pain using synthetic medicines. Try to identify the root cause of the pain and treat it naturally.

Why should we avoid refined wheat flour?

For almost all health issues that humans face in this modern world, consumption of refined foods play a major role in causing diseases. Many people, knowingly or unknowingly, still include refined foods as a major part of their diet everyday. The more we move away from our traditional way of using grains, the more we suffer from malnutrition which leads to various disorders including dental issues. While the quality of grain is important, the way it is processed is equally important. As a first step in treating any disease, it is suggested to eliminate all refined foods from one’s diet, especially refined wheat products.

There is a reason for this suggestion. In the production of refined wheat flour approximately 80% of the calcium and phosphorus content are usually removed, together with the vitamins and minerals present in the embryo or germ. I’ve already shared about the loss of chromium in the refined foods. Deficiencies in trace minerals such as zinc, vanadium and chromium inhibit insulin production and absorption. Without vanadium, sugar in the blood cannot be driven into the cells and chromium is necessary for carbohydrate metabolism and the proper functioning of the insulin receptors. Zinc is a co-factor in the production of insulin. And what do you think all these deficiencies could lead to? Yes! Diabetes. Now, do you think eating rotis/ breads/ biscuits/ cookies made of refined wheat is a sensible choice to deal with your diabetes?

Experts say that a very important factor in the lowering of reproductive efficiency of womanhood is directly related to the removal of Vitamin E in the processing of wheat. No wonder that infertility is on an alarming rise in many parts of the world where the consumption of refined foods is high. In one end, people spend more for fertility clinics to get atleast one child. In the other end, people easily give birth to 2-3 kids but the physical, mental and emotional health of those children are questionable. Frequent sickness, frequent hospital visits, special needs are seen in many families. Other than the usage of chemicals in various forms, majority of the population don’t realize that their diet plays a major role in causing these issues.

The importance of the germ of wheat is not well understood by many people. It plays a major role as a nutritive factor for the pituitary gland in the base of the brain, which largely controls growth and organ function. Likewise, the removal of B vitamins in the embryo of wheat together with its oxidation after processing, result in depletion of several key nutrients needed to build a healthy body. Vitamin E, a natural antioxidant, which protects against clots and inflammation of the blood vessels is removed or destroyed during the high temperature processing of vegetable oils, as well as in the refinement of grains.

Some people think that buying “Organic refined wheat flour” is healthy. Organic does NOT mean unrefined. Organic just means that the wheat berries (or whatever grain for that matter) has been grown without using chemical pesticides and it is non-gmo. Organic grains can also be refined. Please note this and make sure to use the grains properly to avail its benefits. Milling the whole grain just before use is the best way to retain its nutrients. If it is not feasible to freshly mill the grains every time, atleast try to use the flour within few days (not more than a week) to retain much of its nutrients. Several home mills are available in the market nowadays. Spending for kitchen tools now saves hospital expenses in the future.

“The fact should always be emphasized that foods as Nature makes them have much more nutritional value than after they are processed so that insect life cannot live on them. When foods cannot support insect life they cannot support human life.”

Why must we prefer grapes with the seeds?

Grape seeds contain various phytochemicals including a variety of bioflavonoids. These are highly effective “scavengers” of harmful free radicals. Being rich in antioxidants and melatonin, grape seeds support heart and brain health, better sleep and blood circulation. Grape seeds also help recover gut microbiome that got affected by antibiotic treatment. Grapes, when consumed with seeds, help with constipation.

Experts say that grape seeds have the ability to prevent and treat diabetic nephropathy (chronic loss of kidney function occurring in those with diabetes) and diabetic retinopathy (damage that occurs to the retina due to diabetes). It also helps restore elasticity, flexibility and strength to the body’s connective tissue. It keeps collagen (the fibrous part of connective tissue) healthy and flexible.

Studies say that grape seed proanthocyanidins markedly suppress the migration and invasion of certain bladder cancer cells by reversing epithelial–mesenchymal transition through the inhibition of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling pathway.

A mix of grape seed powder and edible camphor (4 pinches of edible camphor with 100 gms of grape seed powder) to your herbal toothpowder will help in conditions like pyorrhea (periodontitis), gingivitis and receding gums. Grape seed paste can be applied on the swelling caused due to injury.

Non-organic grapes are heavily sprayed with chemical pesticides. Consider buying organic grapes with seeds and consume the seeds to get its full benefits.

Sanatana Dharma’s sacred fire rituals are inherently connected to Medical Science

Adiyen’s Medical Neuroscience teacher, who is an American, sat near a campfire and told these words.

“If you have the opportunity to be near a campfire, you might want to have the experience I have right now, where sense of heat, warmth and the sound of the crackle and the dance of the flame and the smell of the burning wood, all brings to mind these incredible feelings of warmth, relaxation and comfort… quite an amazing bit of neuroscience behind all of that.”

He experienced these feelings because fire has the ability to purify the body, mind, soul and the environment.

We, Bhāratiyās, must be thankful to have been born in a culture where the spiritual rituals come with a therapy by default. Adiyen is talking about havan (homam). होम is a Sanskrit word meaning vedic ritual/ sacrifice/ an act of making religious offering. It is a sacred fire ritual done in the vedic Hindu tradition, which is more or less like a campfire but with few more healthy ingredients like ghee, rice, dried coconut, camphor, etc added to it. In our vedic Hindu tradition, fire is used as a medium to invoke the presence of God and it has the ability to destroy all negative energies in the environment. Fire is the key link between the consciousness of the cosmos and that of human beings.

The smoke created by burning these natural ingredients in the havan not only purifies the environment but also benefits our health. Pulmonary drug delivery through inhalation methods is considered as one of the most efficient methods of drug delivery because of rapid absorption, ease of delivery and effectiveness. Smoke (that comes from Homam), when inhaled, clears various micro and macro channels inside our body. Not to mention about the amazing therapeutic values of the veda mantras chanted while doing homam (which will be discussed in detail in future posts). This fire energy is transferred to the air element by the chanting of mantras.

Adiyen’s American teacher, appreciates the therapeutic values of campfire. We, having born in a culture where doing havan (Homam) had been a daily routine for our ancestors and is still being religiously followed by many vaidikās, must understand its medicinal values and teach those to our children. Just being proud of having born in India is not enough. We must understand the science behind our vedic rituals and share it with the younger generation.

We must trust OUR Indian science “Ayurveda” and our vedic rituals more than anything else. Sanatana Dharma’s motto has always been “Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu”, which literally means “May everyone in the world be happy”. It is a prayer taught by our ancestors to live in harmony with all beings in nature and a blessing for all His creations in the world. Real happiness can be achieved by a healthy body and mind. The main purpose of all Homam is to bring about universal happiness and peace. God gave us the shashtras only for us to stay peaceful in this world. Our enlightened rishis have taught us the ways to keep our environment and the self pure. It is our duty to continue the rituals for generations to come to make this earth a healthy place to live. Let us all stay healthy physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu 🙏🙏🙏

Appendix- Is it ok to chop it off?

What you see in the picture above is a teeny tiny, finger-like organ called “appendix” which is located in our large intestine. Even though people are aware of appendix, seldom do we understand its purpose. It is a small area that holds billions of good bacteria (aka friendly bacteria / gut bacteria) which is needed for good digestion. Poor digestion is the root cause of various diseases.

During indigestion, body causes diarrhea to clean out most of the disease causing stuff (toxins from our food, air, water and medicines). Unfortunately our body will flush out both the toxins and the good bacteria, leaving our gut depleted of its protective layer. In this situation, our appendix will release some good bacteria to repopulate the rest of the gut. Appendix is like a bank to store excess good bacteria to help us during tough times.

This release and relocation of beneficial gut bacteria after infection by our appendix helps our immune system keep us healthy and maintain the symbiotic relationship between our cells and our gut bacteria. What will happen when you don’t have appendix??

It is also said that appendix contains some immune cells as well that can react quickly to fight off infections. Again, think what will happen when you don’t have appendix??

But people are not educated by their doctors about the importance of appendix which is why appendectomy (removal of appendix) has become very common. No one will die if their appendix is removed but they will definitely lose a major defence force. I had shared a lot about the prevention of appendix problems. Appendicitis (inflammation of appendix) is caused by chronic constipation, and fermentation and putrefaction of excess starch and/or meat. Appendicitis never occurs in people who eat wisely, says Dr. John Tilden in his book “Appendicitis.”

Think several times before you say OK to your doctor for the removal of any organ from your body (most commonly uterus, ovaries, gall bladder, appendix, thyroid gland, etc). Make sure to know thoroughly about your disease condition and whether organ removal is absolutely necessary. These are not like hair or nail to grow again. Each and every organ has a purpose. Take good care of them. Throwing them away is not going to save your health. It will only pave way to other major health issues in the future.

Gain knowledge about your health and choose the right dietary, lifestyle and treatment options.

Physician and Nurse negligence

Disclaimer

The information provided in this blog are for educational purposes only and should not be used as a substitute for the advice of an appropriately qualified lawyer or a physician. In the event, you use any of the information in this blog for yourself or your dependents, you assume full responsibility for your actions.

Before getting into the topic, one must remember that healthcare law may vary from country to country and even from state to state and that laws may change overtime. As a student of health care law, I feel that it is the responsibility of the individual to know the basic health care laws for their safety.

Let us get into today’s topic.

Physician negligenceSuing a doctor for medical malpractice

Before getting into the physician negligence, we must remember that physicians are seldom hospital employees but independent contractors who work at (but not for) the hospital. In general, the court will look at various factors to decide whether the hospital is liable for the physician’s negligence. The more control that a hospital has over the performance of a supposedly independent contractor, the more likely it is that a court might find that the independent contractor was actually an employee. More about this will be shared in future posts.

In the USA, most cases of physician negligence fall into one of the following categories, which means a malpractice claim might be possible for any of the following mistakes.

* misdiagnosis

* surgical errors

* negligence affecting pregnancy and childbirth

* mistakes in prescribing medication

* mistakes in administering medication

==================================================================

Nurse negligenceSuing a nurse for medical malpractice

In the USA, a malpractice claim on nurses might be possible for the following reasons. If the nurse is an employee of the hospital, the nurse’s negligence is extended to the hospital.

* failure to monitor a patient properly

* failure to take important vital signs and at the proper times

* failure to enter the patient’s nursing records into the patient’s chart

* administering wrong type/ amount of medication

* failure to respond to patient’s call as quickly as possible.

* administering the medication at the wrong time

* failure to report suspicious symptoms of the patients to the physicians in charge

* failure to check a patient for bed sores.

Any of the above mistakes can constitute negligence. Kindly note that healthcare law may vary from country to country and even from state to state.

Importance of Mimamsa (मीमांसा)

Mimamsa shastra is the science and art of interpretation. Those who wish to learn the meanings of vedas must learn Mimamsa shastram. Otherwise, misunderstanding occurs and the negative impact of such misunderstandings can be seen in the current world. Those who don’t even know basic Sanskrit mislead people saying that so and so is said in vedas. Unfortunately there are people who believe these false propaganda about vedas and start hating veda shastram and Sanatana Dharmam.

Mimasa shastra has six components: Vishaya (Topic of discussion), Samshaya (Doubt), Purva Paksha (The apparent view that is later proved to be incorrect), Uttara Paksha (siddhanta) -The correct view (verdict) along with the necessary logical reasoning, Akshepa (Objection that may be raised against the verdict from the point of logic or other passages), Samadhana (Answers to the objection raised in the above all components). Adiyen will share more about these in detail in future posts.
